[[underline]]Ochoco River[[/underline]]

[[underlined]]June 27[[/underlined]] Left [[underlined]]Prineville[[/underlined]] at 10 AM on the Burns Stage road. and traveled till 4 P.M. & camped on the bank of [[underlined]]Ochoco River[[/underlined]]. Came about 20 miles.

Aneroid at Prineville read 2800, on ridge 3950, at camp 3250.

From Prineville we followed up an open wash or wide canyon with rocky, cedar covered sides for some 5 miles and came out on level topped plateau. Then we went up and down ridges and finally struck down a crooked gulch and followed it till we came to Ochoco River & camped. At the highest point we were close to Pinus ponderosa but did not quite reach it. Juniperous virginianus is common all along on rocky slopes. Sagebrush & Purshia tridentata are abundant, but most so & largest in the low [[strikethrough]]V[[/strikethrough]] valleys.

Both the Crooked River Valley at Prineville & the Ochoco Valley are sonoran.

Set traps.

[[underlined]]June 28[[/underlined]] Sunday. Caught a few things & made them up. Wrote some reports & staid all day around camp. A thundershower passed by in P.M. and cooled the air.
