Aneroid read 3300 at camp, 3500 at a point near where we left the river, & 4700 at camp in the mts. The valley is dry & rough & rocky & covered with sagebrush & cedars & Pershia & many Sonora plants. Lava rock & clay beds & some stratified beds are the rocks. Narrow strips of bottom land along the river are [[strikethrough]]so into[[/strikethrough]] rye fields. Higher up on the sides of the valley the sagebrush is scarce & grass is better. At the edge of timber the grass is splendid. Springs are common.
