[[underlined]] Blue Mts   July 9 [[/underlined]] Made up yesterdays skins, hunted & prepared for tomorrows pack trip.
  Found a placer mining camp just below us & prospect holes all over the hills. The country is open and grassy in the valley north & west of us. Good pine timber covers the ridges & higher part of the mts. Water is scarce high up but streams come out below us.
  The whole region seems to be Transition.
  Coville arrived in camp at dusk.

[[underlined]] July 10 [[/underlined]] Went down to Harney with Coville & came back up another road farther west. Stopped at Mr. Gilberts ranch

[[underlined]] July 11 [[/underlined]] Started for the mts. near Strawberry Butte & traveled nearly due north for about 35 miles and camped close to the base of the range. Passed through several large valleys with grass ranches and lots of stock but no crops. The lowest point reached was 4800 feet, camp was 6050, our night camp is 5050 & is among Pinus murragava on Antelope Creek about 3 miles from its junction with Bear Creek.

[[underlined]] July 12 [[/underlined]] Followed down Antelope Creek to Bear Cr. & up the south side of Bear Cr. to above the open meadows & then crossing climbed the ridge & followed up the slope toward Strawberry Butte. Crossed over creek that flowed west & then kept on the
