August 4.
Took up our traps and got a fair lot of specimens. Left camp about 8 oclock and continued on toward Pengra where we arrived between 3 and 4 oclock. Being told we would ceach Paulina Lake from that point we camped and made up our specimens with a view to reaching the Lake the following day. Aneroid read 4050 ft

Aug. 5.
Being told we could reach the Lake by buckboard we left our load excepting what we needed for a day or two and started toward the Lake. We passed through a level "prairie" about 4 miles in extent and then taking a dim road we entered the woods of pine and commenced to climb. We had some trouble in finding the road at times but got along well until within about 3 miles of the Lake. when we were prevented by mudfalls from proceeding further with the wagon. So we packed our baggage on the two saddles and reached the Lake in time to put out a few traps
