Our first flight out of Jeddah was a transport flight for the purpose of advising Mr. Twitchell of a turn for the worse in the condition of Harry Ballard, an employee of the syndicate who was seriously ill in Jeddah. The airplane was flown to the head of construction on the Jeddah - Mahad road where, there being no satisfactory landing place, a note was dropped to Mr. Twitchell apprising him of the Doctor's warning that Ballard might die at any moment. 

During the first part of May, several transport flights were made out of Jeddah. They included one round trip to Wedj and one round trip to Mahad Dahab Mine for purpose of transporting executives. 

On May 14 and 15 we moved to Wedj, picking up Shanks at Mahad Dahab en route. At Wedj, the freight having arrived, the rest of the month of May and the first part of June was sent installing equipment, building a shelter for the airplane, et cetera.
