In afternoon rode with Lt Rathrock in B-17 - He demonstrated the "black box" automatic approach control. I was not happy about the control although it convinced me of the need for automatic control, this gadget needs considerably more work. On the two approaches made, turns were very violent - control action much too rough - overcontrolling and overmaneuvering etc. This was said to be normal, but it also lined up 300 to 400 feet to left of runway. This was said to be defective mechanism - However this points need for a parallel system.

Flew one approach myself on SCS-51 manually - Was too rough - mainly because I used too much rudder on slips. Paints need for adequate proficiency in manual flying of plane.

Discussuion with Dr Frank showed need for "Training development"
