g. [[underlined]] Air Traffic Control [[/underlined]] plan of the Eastern Sector has been reviewed. It is believed that further study should be made and that a working model of the Trans-Himalayan Airway should be erected for the purpose of developing more adequate procedures and for training personnel in their execution. Recommendation to this effect and request for personnel to put into execution have been made.

h. [[underlined]] Operations Methods [[/underlined]] were studied in connection with a routine flight to China. Recommendation for improvement in these methods was made.

8. [[underlined]] Results [[/underlined]] of the new training activity of the Wing are becoming apparent.

a. At least two airplanes are positively known to have been prevented from crashing as a direct result of training.

b. Other potential losses may have been saved by the training. This is evidenced by the facts that several pilots previously flying as first pilots have been found not qualified and placed on co-pilot status. Numerous pilots ( one of whom has had fifty-five (55) trips across the Hump ) had never had single engine landing practice.

c. Improved familiarization of the pilots with the mechanical items of the C-46 is said to be reducing the amount of maintenance necessary.

9. [[underlined]] Recommendations [[/underlined]]. It is believed that further activity of the Wing training department should be directed toward:

a. Improvement of the mechanic training system

b. Improvement of en route pilot training procedures
