April 23, contd.

Went to Hasting's mill via ground transport. The new HQ is certainly sumpm! Hundreds of desks in akz one big room. Officer's quartersin another big room. 300 beds in one room. First few nights the lights were left on all night! Finally the officers started throughing things at the lights and breaking the globes! Now lights are turned out at 11:00 pm.

I stayed with Col. White. Full Cols have very good quarters. Page reports everything very confused. Organization very upset account noboddy knows what his duties are.

Charlie Skannal wants me to work up a "Pilot's Handbook" containing power curves, regulations, point to point procedures, terminal procedures, etc. Will continue on my own and see what happens.

Col. White and party are well prepared on the Communications conference. It is scheduled for the May 1st.

Long talk in evening with Jimmy Ros. He states we are in excellent favor will all concerned.

April 24                           Calcutta.
   Saw Flickenger re High Altitude course. He took the manuscript and promised to read it during the evening. I will pick it up at 9:00 p.m.
   Talked over details of Communications Conference with Col White.
   Talked to Col Ed Schroedre re training of mechanics. He agrees to necessity for training them. "He thinks best way would be to set up big school and put mechanics in for traing. However, agrees that this is impossible therefore thinks on the job training is only answer. He liked idea of our qualification card idea but felt it was big job. Wanted to know what incentive we could offer for doing the work. That is to the soldier for getting qualified. Finally agreed that I would complete first sample set
