Saw Squaby Vine -

June 12th. 1944.

Went to Mohanbari and looked over training there. Found that they are doing quite a lot of training. Had good display of charts and mockups. Visitors seemed impressed.

After lunch flew over to Sookerating with transition ship Pilot xxx used a check list which was not standard. Did not follow standard run-up procedures. Major morris , chief pilot was not at Mohanbari.

At Sookerating, the visitors asked a few questions of the base executive. Such questions as how many total officers, how many aircraft, etc

Long talk with HerbFisher. He suggests, use power longer on takeoff, emergency landing approach without engines, fire procedure.

Long talk with Reykland on industrial engineering procedures. He seems to be pretty well informed, but probably notas good as he and his associates think he is.

Went to Jorhat where checked a little on training, Visitors asked same questions. Learned very little.

Went to Tezpur, same thing. Talked with Cowan on training. Believe they are still doing good job on pilot training. Have not looked at communications training.

Met General Old at supper. He seems to be looking at overall picture of freight carrying across the hump. I talked to him about Air Traffic Control, particularly about instrument let downs at Kunming. Told him my idea was to put in a competent officer with full authority.

Tezpur brought me back to Gaya in their B-24 transition ship. The student did a good job of flying it, but needs a little more practice on certain of the items.
