Prof Baird.

The President acting upon a resolution of the National academy of sciences has directed that the Building and contents remain in statuque for the present and that all packing and work of breaking up the collection be stopped at once, except only of such articles as are mentioned, needed in the departments here. If you will inform me by mail or telegraph, what articles are needed here from your collection I will take the directions to the President in regard to [[strike]] it [[/strike]] them and communicate by telegraph what directions he may give. The project is to move the Building + contents to Washington, or erect a suitable building here, for the reception of the contents. If Congress will appropriate the necessary money, whch the Presidents will ask.
