Spencer F. Baird Esq

Dear Sir

About 3 weeks ago I collected what I could in the way of young trees and packed a case with them, also including a quantity of acorns &c in the soil surrounding the roots, having first divided the case into compartments so that the seeds would not intermix.

In addition to this I filled another box with nuts and acorns all securely packed in soil that I had dried artificially. I then advised Mr Levy who replied that I need not dispatch until about the 25th of November, and direct to Mr Cameron New York. This I propose to do unless I receive advice to the contrary.

I had not enough to fill both cases.

I enclosed about 250 plants - 19 species of Oak - 3 of Hickory 3 of Maple and one Walnut -- and seeds of other species.

Yours very respectfully,
