Sir: I have received your letter of the 8th instant, forwarding accounts of Messrs Campbell, Adam and Blackenship. for $84.50, $88.22 and $15.00 respectively for expenditures in behalf of the Centennial Exposition. Employes of the Government receiving a stipulated salary cannot be allowed to make a claim for their board, hence I must decline to approve the charge of $80.00 for board in the account of Mr Campbell; and of $20.00 for luncheons, $48.00 for board, and $6.72 for street car fares in the account of Mr Adams.
