[[Mr.?]] J Rhees Esq

Dear Sir

In reply to Prof Baird's letter of yesterday I will state that the pay roll was recd this A.M. I enclose herewith the check for 405.50 for J. Palmer.

The check for the pay roll will be requested payable to your order. We expect Genl Eaton today, and as soon as he arrives the vouchers will be sent to Col Comad for payment.

If Prof. Baird leaves here for the summer does he desire checks still sent to him at Smithsonian Inst. or would he prefer to send the address with each voucher and let all checks be mailed direct from this office, (except where voucher calls for gold) as is done with [[?]] coming direct.

Very respectfully

Your obedient servant

Chas Warren
Actg. Commissioner
