Office Asst Supt Freedmen.
Greensboro" N. C. August 5" 1865.

Col E. Whittlesey,
Asst Comssr. F. M. B.

Sir.

Enclosed please find a list of all Confederate property under my control at this place at Grahams Station I find there are two Dwelling Houses and two Stables. belonging to the Goverment. the Dwellings are occupied by Freedmen. the Stable roofs have fallen in and they are of no use at the present time. and the lumber is going to waste. there are some ten to fifteen thousand feet of good lumber in said Stables. and I think it would be well to have them torn down and the Lumber piled up. please inform me what would be the best to do with this Lumber. under the present situation the lumber is in a spoiling condition and should be attended to at once.

There is now in Jail at this place a negro who has been cooking for the soldiers at this place, and stole some fifty dollars worth of clothing and ran away. he was arrested by Military Authorities and placed in Jail. will his case come before me or turn him over to the Civil Authorities. everything in my Department is working smoothly.

Very Respectfully
Your Obdt Servt
Asa Teal
Capt and Asst Supt Freedmen
