Remained in camp finishing reports & collecting things in the big meadow. [[underlined]] July 8. [[/underlined]] Sunday. Climbed to top of Lincoln Peak, 3 miles sough of Donner, 8400 feet high. Found a good wide strip of Hudsonian on the upper 1000 feet of its N. slope, with hemlocks, Salix g. villosa, Bryanthus breweri, Sibaldia procumbens, & dwarfed Pinus monticola & Abies magnifica. Big snowhawks came down to 7400 feet or lower on steep slopes. Found signs of Lepus campestris on top of peak, also of Arctomys & Thomomys. Men are at work pulling out the Aconitum in the meadows above Donner as several cows have been killed by it. [[underlined]] July 9. [[/underlined]] Sent Walter Fisher down the road for Eutamias quadrimaculatus but in going 12 miles he did not reach the edge of Transition zone, 6700 feet was the lowest altitude reached. He found Senex & [[flater?]] as low down as he went.
