at 3800 feet was a pool of rainwater in rock basin in creek bed. Came about 25 miles. Found water in pools or tanks every few miles along the road & a man who rode with us most of the forenoon pointed out springs in almost every canyon along the mountain sides. Were probably not 4 miles from water at anytime all day. Most of the pools & many of the springs go dry at times. This seems to be the rainey season with showers hanging around somewhere almost every day, striking in one valley & then in another or on the various mountain ranges. In places grass is good & abundant, & again for long distances it is scarce or all dried up. The brush is scattered & all of desert species. cactus, agavas, yuccas & dasylerions cover the stony hills & fouquierias are conspicuous.
