[[underline]] June 11. [[/underline]] Took a bag of biscuit on my back & started over the top of the mountains to see the part that I had not been over before & to get deer. Crossed the ridge N.W. of camp at 8100 feet (about 400 feet below the top of highest point in this part of range) and came down into the head of [[strikethrough]] creek [[/strikethrough]] gulch that comes down past our camp. Followed down this gulch with its water pools a mile or so, then over the ridge west & down on the saddle connecting this part with the big western part of the mountains. From this saddle (at 7000 feet) I followed old trail down gulch to south and I camped for the night at old sheep camp at 5500 feet. just east of the big gulch running up to Mt. Emory from the east & of the rock spire that ought to be called Cleopatra's Needle. A few sheep were kept here 2 years ago & some old salt troughs remain so the place is known as the "salt troughs" There is a pool of fairly good water near it in the bottom of the gulch Slept on a bed of leaves without coat or blanket & kept a little fire to keep warm by.
Saw one black tail & one white tail but killed nothing
