[[underline]] June 23 [[/underline]] - The horses were found yesterday so we said a cheerful good bye to the Dugout, where we have baked in the valley heat for nearly a week, & got an early start on the road to Terlinga. Continued around ^[[north of]] the Chisos Mts, on the mesa to Nevel Spring (10 miles) & then on keeping near the same level till we struck the head of Rough Run which we followed down about 6 or 7 miles & camped near the west base of the Chisos Mts. In coming about 28 miles we have half encircled the Chisos Mts. keeping near the 4000 foot level on the mesa & crossing hundreds of little washes & gulches. Passed between the Chisos & Rosiyos Mts. & in view of the Corozones & Nine Point & Santiago Peak - all barren hills to our north.

Kept on Larrea, mesquite & Acacia plains with the full set of lower sonoran plants, yuccas, agaves, soto etc - Found much ripe fruit of the [[petaillo?]] Cereus [[aenacanthus?]]?)

The exact position of our camp is at the narrows of Rough Run below (a mile West of) the little rock capped, clay cove in open valley.

Transcription Notes:
"Terlinga" in first paragraph is probably "Terlingua", but I left it as written. Also, Nevel Spring is probably Neville Spring, but left as written. And also "Rosiyos Mts". is a probably a phonetic spelling of "Rosillos Mts."--thomasc Corozones is probably the Corazones Mts.
