At Ft. Davis we went east a mile & then followed up Limpia Canyon about 4 miles to Andrew Prudes ranch & camped near the 5000 foot [[coutay?]]. We are in the foot hills of the Davis Mts. with big ridges & rounded lava hills about us. Casket Mtn. & Black Mtn. off to the north. Live oaks are scattered over the hills

[[underlined]] July 8 [[/underlined]] - Went back to Ft. Davis for mail & then in P.M. started up the [[strikethrough]] canyon [[/strikethrough]] gulch from Mr. Prudes. Followed the dry wash of the head water region of Limpia Creek up about 10 miles & camped in a narrow canyon at about 5500 feet Found good rainwater in a rock tank Struck Pinus edulis & Juniperus pachyphlia where we left the main road to about 5300 feet & a few [[underlined]] ponderosa [[/underlined]] where we camped. The gulch slopes N.E. but is open so the slope counts for little. Saw about a dozen band tailed pigeons just before we camped. Shot some Psaltriparus lloydi.
