species become more common on account of broader base level, & at our night camp the mixture is complete - mesquite & most of the previously mentioned Lower Sonoran forms being common, also Lippia [[blank space]] & a big Yucca [[blank space]].

The country becomes noticably more arid with more cactus & Yuccas & Nolina.

Of Upper Sonoran birds there are Sturnella  Aimophila cassini, Aphalacoma cyanotis, Chordiles v. henryi, 

Of lower Sonoran species - Amphispiza bilineata, Milvulus, Calipepla squamosa,

Saw a few Spermophilus m. parvidens & numbers of their burrows. got a young one that a bull snake had caught & killed & just begun to swallow.  Saw a few hills of Thomomys & plenty of Lepus texianus, & some cottontails - [[underlined]] arizonae [[/underlined]]?

A few ^[[insertion]] (2) [[/insertion]] ranches near the road & others seen at a distance, all with windmills. Had to pay 2 1/2 ยข each for watering the horses at any ranch.
