there are scattered & much dwarfed Prosopis juliflora, Acacia constricta, Zizyphus, Condalea, Rhus microphylla, Opuntia englemanni, & even one or two dwarfed Larrea bushes. Microrhamnus & Krameria canescens are the commonest shrubs, the former forming thickets here and there. Yucca Stricta grows in thick patches or scattered plants & often 10 to 15 feet high, A few Y. macrocarpa are seen.

The breeding birds are Sturnella hooperii, [[Pucea?]] cassini, Chondestes, Corvus cryptoleucus, Speotyto & in town barn swallows & English sparrows. The first Bartramia arrived Aug. 8 & 9, & Calamospiza Aug. 9.

We can find no Thomomys or Cratogeomys in the valley, but Dipodomys spectabilis are fairly common. Extensive prairie dog towns cover much of the valley. Spermophilus spilosoma are common & badgers have dug holes all over the prairie. Lepus texianus are common & also Lepus arizonae.

I shot one diamond rattlesnake near the town & found several long horned horn toads.
