[[underlined]] Valentine to El Paso [[/underlined]] 

[[underlined]]Aug. 14 [[/underlined]] - Returned to Valentine with John Finley, crossing the prairie by a new road. The valley is so green & covered with flowers that it is a veritable prairie instead of an arid plain. Found beautiful cactus in bloom & saw a few more fall birds.

[[underlined]] Aug. 15 [[/underlined]] - Wrote on reports all day. 

[[underlined]] Aug. 16 - 17 [[/underlined]] - Remained at Valentine, writing & sending a few specimens. 

[[underlined]] Aug. 18 [[/underlined]] - The train for El Paso was late & did not come till 5 A.M., so I was able to see the country all the way. For about 20 miles we followed down the wide valley to the north, then up a long, gradual rise past the base of the Eagle Mts. & up to Sierra Blanca, then down to the Rio Grande Valley at Ft. Hancock. This whole trip is in Lower Sonoran zone with only a mixture of Upper Sonoran at Sierra Blanca & on the N slopes of hills. Larrea  & mesquite & Koeberlinia all common all they way except
