We shot some birds & came back over the ridges from the lake & found it was a short cut. Made up skins & set traps in P.M. [[underlined]] June 3 [[/underlined]]. Hunted back over juniper & nut pine ridges 2 or 3 miles N.E. of camp & found interesting birds & nests, lots of prairie dogs & a big rattle snake. Two of the horses disappeared & Surber hunted them all day without success. That kept one of us at camp on guard all day, but we hunted around near by & made up a few skins. Rained by showers toward evening. [[underlined]] June 4 [[/underlined]]. Hunted horses most of the day Caught 2 little Perognathus. Had a shower in evening as usual.
