[[underlined]] June 24 [[/underlined]] Continued on our road and in about 4 miles came to Cabra Spring, a stage station & P.O. 16 miles east of Gallinas Spr. & 24 miles N. of Santa Rosa. Here we turned north on the Las Vegas road and crossing the Concho River followed up the east side of it about 12 miles and camped within easy reach of the high mesa east & north of the river that seems to be covered with tall timber.

Camped among the junipers at 6000 feet by a dry wash with fresh rain pools. Explored around camp but did not try to climb the mesa tonight.

At Cabra Spring the aneroid read 5500, at the Concha R. about 5300, at camp 6000. There is considerable mesquite in the Concha R. Valley on southern slopes but most of the country is pure Upper Sonoran.

We are now between two Spanish land grants & the country is settled by ranch owners, mainly small & rather poor ranches along the river. There is fine grazing land & much stock, mainly sheep & cattle.
