[[/underlined]] At same camp, beautiful weather with a shower somewhere every day. Our grove of fine old cottonwoods is cool and beautiful. It is on the land of a Mr. Taber, who hospitably gives the choice of his field for a camp place. [[underlined]] July 11. [[/underlined]] Broke camp and started at noon for Pecos and up the Pecos River. Stopped at Pecos for supplies & to arrange about mail, then continued up the river valley about 12 miles and camped above the mouth of Indian Creek. Found ranches, camps & Mexican settlements all along the river bottoms and a lot of nice looking club houses in the settlement part of the valley just before we reach the edge of the Timber reserve. Most of the places are posted & no shooting or fishing allowed. The Pecos Valley is narrow with steep slopes coming down to the river bed on one side & to the narrow bottoms on the other.
