They are fairly fresh & have a good smell, are 4 to 6 inches across & a thick, heavy form. [[image: drawing of the Fairy Ring]] The grass is rank & dark green & all other plants unusually [[?sank/rank]] in the circle which has a width of about a foot. Besides grass there is Achilea milifolium, Artemisia, Chenipodium, mustard & other plants. This is one of the typical circles seen all over the plains but rarely seen with the mushrooms present. Near this circle is a little circle of Antennaria dioica, about 4 feet across. It grows as a mat & the middle has died out, leaving a silvery ring a foot in width. [[image: drawing of the Antennaria circle]] One of the mountain grasses grows in a ring in a similar way, the inner part dying out and the new shoots coming up on the outside of the circle so it constantly spreads.
