the valley. Ranchers & towns are flooded, grain fields are big lakes houses up to the windows in water & one whole town standing in 4 to 6 feet of water. For miles our train plows through water nearly over the wheels sending great waves off on the sides & having a long wake behind where no track is visible.
 
At Elmdale a mockingbird was singing.

Until dark we continued to cross flooded bottoms with water over the tracks.
