[[underlined]] To Cliff [[/underlined]]

[[underlined]] Nov. 6. [[/underlined] Crossed the mesa 100 feet above camp and then down the long, gradual slope of Duck Creek for 20 miles to [[underlined in red]] Cliff [[/underlined]] on the Gila River. Crossed the river and camped a mile beyond the crossing [[strikethrough]] at [[/strikethrough]] near the bend of the river as it turns southwest. Started with aneroid at 5200 and found that it agreed with the G.S. posts at the White House, (4596) 4 miles north of the P.O. of Cliff, and at the hotel near our camp (4470), some 30 feet about the river.

Duck creek valley is dry, open and grassy down to its junction with Saccatone Creek, some 6 or 7 miles above it's mouth. Then it has a small stream of water and cottonwoods & sycamores along the banks, is mainly fenced & in pasture, but no one lives on it except near its junction with the Gila. [[strikethrough]] The [[/strikethrough]]

The Gila valley is wide and fertile below the canyon with numerous farms & ranches, dense groves of cottonwoods & willows & sycamores & some walnut, ash & boxelder.
