Packed up our personal stuff, stored camp outfit in the stable of Mrs. Pinkerton discharged my camp man & sent him home and took 1 P.M. train to [[red underline]] Deming [[/red underline]].

[[underlined]] Nov. 12 [[/underlined]] Found white necked ravens abundant in the streets of Deming and tames as doves or chickens. Took 11:30 S.P. train to El Paso & waited there for the overland Sunset Limited for New Orleans and Washington.  Left El Paso at 7 P.M.

[[underlined]] Nov. 13 [[/underlined]] Daylight was Sanderson and then dark before we reached San Antonio (at 8 P.M.) Slight traces of frost at Del Rio and Uvalde but leaves all killed and dry at Taxodium at Nueces R. good cotton & other crops.  Cotton not yet killed.
