Mr. Ripley stated that it is customary to recognize the services of a Regent who has been active in the affairs of the Institution but who will not continue as a member of the Board of Regents. The following citation was unanimously approved by the Board, signed by the Chancellor and the Secretary, and will be presented to Mr. Cederberg by the Secretary.

for his distinguished service as a dedicated member

of the Board of Regents

supporting and advancing the programs of the Institution

[[underlined]]Memorial to Mr. Leo J. Ryan[[/underlined]]

The Board of Regents memorializes the untimely death of Leo J. Ryan, Regent of the Smithsonian Institution. Mr. Ripley reported that in the short period that he was a Regent, Mr. Ryan had an intense interest in the affairs of the institution. The Regents unanimously resolved to extend to the family their deepest sympathy.

RESOLVED: The Regents extend to the family their deepest sympathy.
