[[underlined]] Retirement of Director, Support Activities [[/underlined]]

It was announced that Mr. Richard L. Ault, Director of Support Activities, has indicated his intention to retire in the near future. He has served with the Smithsonian since November 1970, during which time we have come to value his services to the Institution and his high sense of dedication.

Mr. Ault has promised to remain with us until July 1979, to bring to completion certain important projects in which he is now engaged, and to make available for a while longer the benefit of his experience. He will therefore step down from his position as Director on January 15, 1979 and will at that time become a Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Administration. In this capacity, Mr. Ault will provide counsel and advice on administrative/service activities and their relationship to the program activities they support. He will continue to assist in the development of plans for certain pan-institutional programs which have been matters of concern during his tenure, such as those dealing with fire prevention, handicapped, energy conservation, investigations, safety and security.
