Federal, State, local, and private organizations, and authorizing a research grant award program with specified internal and external peer review to encourage and stimulate the continued research endeavors of the Institution"

Action Taken. The Congress re-established the competitive research awards program at the funding level of $390,000 in its action on the fiscal year 1979 appropriation. This is the same level as was provided in fiscal year 1977. As noted earlier (item 4 of the Audit and Review Committee report on recommendations for improving the accountability of the Institution to the Congress), the conferees requested the Regents to ask the National Science Foundation to establish the Research Awards and Special Foreign Currency Review Panels. NSF has agreed to this assignment.
