[[underlined]] Trade (Tariff) Commission Building [[/underlined]]

Since the September 1978 report to the Regents on the Trade Commission Building, Smithsonian staff have continued to discuss the building's transfer to the Institution with members of the staff of the U.S. International Trade Commission and with the General Services Administration. The press of business facing the new Chairman of the Commission has precluded his attention to this project. The Secretary had an opportunity to reaffirm Smithsonian interest with Jay Solomon (Administrator, General Services Administration) at a meeting on November 7, 1978. On this occasion, Mr. Solomon requested his staff to prepare a new building prospectus for the eventual transfer of the Trade Building to the Smithsonian for public use.

It is anticipated that Mr. Joseph Parker, Chairman of the U.S. International Trade Commission, will be able to devote more time to these matters early next year. In the meantime, the Institution will follow up on Mr. Solomon's proposal to revise the current Trade Building prospectus.
