SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION
BYLAWS OF THE BOARD OF REGENTS

Section 1 - Promulgation

1.01 [[underlined]] Charter [[/underlined]]. These bylaws have been adopted by the Board of Regents to govern the conduct of the Smithsonian Institution's business pursuant to an Act of Congress approved August 10, 1846, as amended (20 U.S.C. 41, et seq.) Which as so amended is hereinafter referred to as the "Charter". These bylaws are in all respects subject to the provisions of the Charter and shall be interpreted accordingly.

1.02 [[underlined]] Amendment [[/underlined]]. These bylaws may be amended at any meeting of the Board of Regents by a majority vote of the Regents present, provided that the proposed amendments have been mailed to each member of the Board of Regents not later than thirty days prior to such meeting. 

Section 2 - Board of Regents

2.01 [[underlined]] Powers and Composition [[/underlined]]. The governing body of the Smithsonian Institution is the Board of Regents specified in the Charter. (See also: 20 U.S.C. 42)
