[[underlined]] Naming of Smithsonian Facility [[/underlined]]

The Secretary noted that in the May 9, 1973 meeting of the Board of Regents the consensus of the Board was that they should be asked to approve the naming of any public Smithsonian building and also the public use of the donor's name in connection with a substantial gift, such as in the naming of an exhibition hall.

A request has been received in behalf of naming the National Air and Space Museum's (NASM) portion of the Silver Hill Facility for Mr. Paul E. Garber, Historian Emeritus at NASM, who will soon celebrate his 80th birthday and next year will mark his 60th year with the Smithsonian Institution.

On the occasion of his 60th anniversary we would like to designate NASM's portion of the Silver Hill Facility "The Paul E. Garber Preservation, Restoration and Storage Facility." The title would apply to the activity rather than to the site, so that it would be of a permanent nature.

A resolution to effect this request was recommended by the Executive Committee, and accordingly the Regents approved the following motion:

VOTED that the Board of Regents names the National Air and Space Museum's portion of the Silver Hill Facility "The Paul E. Garber Preservation, Restoration and Storage Facility."
