State of North Carolina:—

Sir. We the undersigned parties have the honor to apply for a piece or tract of land, lying in the County of Carteret and on the West side of North River and near the head of Said River. This piece of land was granted to us by the State as you will find by reference to the copy of the Patent. A small portion of said land has Turpentine trees and are now under the controll of the Freedman's Bureau. This was open or State land. We entered it and procured a Patent from the State a copy of which we hereby transmit, asking for the possession, or the withdrawal of the possession, or the right of possession of the Freedman's Bureau.

We have taken oath prescribed by the Presidents Proclamation of 1865 and we come under none of the exceptions.— We therefore consider ourselves under no legal disabilities a copy of said oath we hereby enclose
