to be refunded to said Alston at and of two or three months, or so soon as the straws were sold; The tools to be mine in the end. as soon as paid for; and furthermore he then= said Alston did promise to pay me for all or any extra work done upon his plantation, apart from the making of straws and to pay me for said extra labor at the same rate I paid hands employed by me, to wit, sixteen dollars per month. This contract and agreement to be binding for the period of two years. Upon the foregoing agreement I commenced work on the 15" day of May, 1867. (Here refer to account marked "A." 

I hired for the purpose of making said straws, seventeen hands or laborers, to whom I agreed to pay $16^00/ per month, as soon as the straws were sold, and I secured payment from Alston.

On the 6" Aug. 67. Mr. Alston ordered me to leave. I told
