The facts of The Case in relation to the man Doctor Smith alias Doctor - Hinton, are as follows. In November a Capias was regular Sued out of the Court of Please & Quarter session of Granville County directed to myself Commanding the arrest of Doctor Smith on a charge of Bastardy. This writ was returned to February Term of Granville Court endorsed" Not To be found in Wake. An alias Capias was issued at February Term of the same Court directed to me accompanied by a note from The Clerk informing me, that Mary Page (The mother of the bastard child) informed him that Doctor Smith was a shoe maker, and then working in Raleigh as she understood My return on this writ was not to be found in Wake, at the same time informing the Clerk that there was one Doctor [[strikethrough]] Smith [[/strikethrough]] Hinton here who was a shoe maker, A pluries Capias issued from May Term of the same Court returnable to August Term Commanding the arrest of Doctor Smith Alias Doctor Hinton My Deputy Mr Horton was informed by a respectable Colored Man That Dr Smith had gone
