Gen'l,
I have the honor to apply for an appointment as Civil Agent of the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands, to be stationed in the State of North Carolina, if possible, or in any other of the Southern States. My Military history is as follows. To wit:

I entered the service as a 1st Lt in the 2nd Penn V. Res. Corps, in May 1861. served in that Regt. until June 16th, 1864, when I was mustered out by reason of expiration of term of service = Shortly after said muster out, I was commissioned in the 37th U.S. Colored Troops and 
appointed Asst. Adjt. Genl on the staff of Brevt Gen'l N. Goff, then commanding a Brigade in the 10th Army Corps. I served in that capacity until Sept. 7th, 1865, when I was appointed
