Colonel,
I have the honor to report that the body of Captain Henry of a Western Regiment lays burried at Charlotte in an isolated location side by side with soldiers who had deserted the army of the United States and enlisting in the Rebel army - men shot for desertion therefrom and other causes.
From information in the case of Captain Henry derived from the citizens of Charlotte NC while stationed there as Asst Supt Bu of R F and AL. I have learned that Captain Henry was taken prisoner in battle by the Rebels and while enroute as such prisoner from one prison camp to another in the South - escaped from the Cars and applied for protection at a house in the vicinity of Charlotte NC footsore weary and half starved. The citizen for a few days protected him but fearing exposure he divulged the case to Gen Hoke then Comdg at Charlotte, who had him arrested, tried, convicted, and executed for "desertion" and burried with the renegades of our army.
