Dear sir If I possessed the prejudices of my sex in this section of country, in regard to the U.S. officers and Northern gentleman generally, I would shrink from the present attempt. But the principles of my husband having brought me in closer contact than the majority of Southern ladies, with gentlemen from the North; both in the service and out of it, I have learned to appreciate their qualities, and to confide in their courtesy and kindness.
