    vs      }Braking open}July 19^th
Save Conyers} House  |} 1867
               
Charged with braking open the Store House of J P Harris On the night of the 4th day of June 1867

J P Harris being sworn says that on the evening of the 4 day of June I left my storehouse to go to supper when I got to supper when I got to supper Mr [[?]] Conyers came up when we ate supper sat & talked a while got up and started back there was a col man a head of us by the nam. e of Mingo Neal. On getting near the store room he said some man^s trying to brake in the storeroom and called to us and told us the store was Broken open when I got there found the back door broken [[strikethrough]] swinging to one hinge by its being hard to open thay had broken off one hinge I then went around the house & found the shutters broken open & window hoisted then went in and made up a light and found all my cloting gone  I then went out to one end of the store room & found 2 or 3 planks broken off of the house  I did not find any of my clothing untill the 4^th day of July and that was at Raleigh On the Person of a col man by the name of Ben Cunn he was arrested and taken to the Guard house.  he [[?]] said that he had bought these from a col man by the name of Isaac Handy who had been Teaching school at Forestville in in Wake county but Resides in Raleigh when at home  Hardy was then sent for & brought to guard house  he said that he had bought them from a man by the name of Watkins Holden who lives near Forestville We arrested him. He saw Holden on the 1 of July and had a trial an he said [[day?]] he was convicted & sent to Jail he acknowledged that he was at that braking open of the store and told me where to find the clothing hid in the woods near Forestville also told me that I would find a suit of cloths in the possession of a col man by the name of Daniel Walk[[?]] both of the above named cloths I found to be mine as stated by Watkins Holden he said that a col man
