around north of College Peak and down into the great Lower Sonoran Sulphur Springs Valley. A few of the big agaves are seen in the pass but we are soon down in the valley and at Douglas at 3970 feet.

Douglas is a big smelting town out in the middle of the valley. I should guess it has 10000 inhabitants, well spaced. It has a good depot and several electric car lines.

The valley is grassy but with no visible farming country except for the numerous windmills & tanks.

Mesquite is the dominant shrub of the valley but the whole set of Lower sonoran species occur. They also extend over the low gap west of the valley to Bisly & Naco. A few big agaves & some [[Dasyterians??]] occur in the gap.
