[[underlined]]Casa Grande Station[[/underlined]

[[underlined]]June 7[[\underlined]] - Took a long tramp over the valley near Casa Grande & saw lots of signs of Dipodomys diserti, and merriami, and saw 4 Lupus allimi, dozens of L. texensis & L. arizona. Saw one coyote.

The valley is flat & level & part of it has been irrigated from the Florence Reservoir, but the water supply gave out and most of the fields have dried up & been abandoned.

The soil of the valley is firm and rich and needs only water to make fine farms. This can be had when the San Carlos Reservoir is put in good condition.

The plants are few in species and colonial in distribution. For a long distance it will be all creosote, then all mesquite, then all Atriplex, then mainly Lycium & that is about the limit for the flat country. We found one giant cactus about 6 feet high, but the Neotomas had nearly killed it. had eaten it full of holes and spiral burrows to near the top.
