[[blank page]] [[end page]] [[start page]] [[underline]]June 18[[/underline]]. [[underline]]Twin Oaks & San Marcos[[/underline]] to Ocean Side. Set out traps and hunted all the afternoon. Caught snakes & lizard & horntoad. Followed a little way up the nearly dry San Luis Rey River & found alder & a to me new cottonwood tree. So many of the bushes are new to me that I shall have to collect them. [[underline]]June 19[[/underline]] - Caught Citellus beecheyi, Neotoma fuscipes, Peromyscus boylii & gambeli, Reithrodontomys longicaudus, Microtus caliifornicus & Thomomys b. pallescus. Lepus californicus are said to be here & L. auduboni is common. In evening I went to a rocky gulch to shoot bats but saw only one and did not get a shot. Killed a barn owl & saw others. Found a lot of the strange white Colyledon pulverulentum growing on the walls of a canyon near here, on the hot slope only, while on the cold slope were the more abundant but less conspicuous Colyledon edulis.
