[[underline]] To Escovdodo.

June 21.[[/underline]] Engaged a team for several days & drove to Escondido on my way to Santa Ysobel & the desert east of there-
The valley at Escondido seems to be well sheltered from coast winds and the margins raise good oranges, olives, figs, etc. The central part of the valley is mainly meadows, and is evidently cold and frosty & probably belongs to Upper Sonoran. The Lower Sonoran belt covers the side slopes and runs up the mountains without much to marle[[?]]-its upper limit.but on south slopes may go to the top of the steep, serge covered hills.
