[[underline]]Elsinore to Hemet [[/underline]]
[[underline]]July 29[[/underline]] Left Elsinore at 7 A.M. and followed up a dry wash most of the way to Perris, The water has been taken out of the creek but stands in pools here & there. The hills are low & rough and in many places a [[mass?]] of granite boulders, but strips of flat land make plains here & there. The vegetation is variety 'sages'- Artemisia Californica, Rawona polystactia, & [[oidesstachy?]], & Eriogonum fasciculatum. Two juniper trees were seen but no amount of upper Sonoran vegetation. At Perris Pipper trees, fan palms, eucalyptus, and big Agaves are [[common?]], also Turkey mullein [[and]] tarrweed, so I am inclined to call it Lower Sonoran. A little East of Perris is an Atriplex flat & desert like valley. There near Hemet fields of Abronia make acres of pink carpet over sandy fields where the grain has been cut. The land is generally sandy, and rather barren except when irrigated.
