From a Smithsonian Bulletin on East African Mammals: 'Wambuga - Between Fort Hall and Mount Kenia at 5,300 feet altitude.' From Google Maps, this would make the county either modern-day Kirinyaga, or Muranga - as Fort Hall is very close to the border between these two counties, and Mount Kenya is partly situated in Kirinyaga, I estimated that Kirinyaga would be the correct location.
