school again with all the carefree nonsense of college life. Here is a bit of it as I recall it: "This is station MIT, 'the Clarion Call from the Blue,' H2O announcing. We are broadcasting on a wheelbase of 132 inches. At this point, we wish to acknowledge the receipt of a cable from Sydney, Australia --

'Program coming in fine. Am using one tube
and a roll of barbed wire. (Signed) Uncle
Bim.'

This is station MIT procrastinating -- station M - I - T, 'the White City on the Charles.' We will now transfer control to our studio in the Inconsequential Hotel, etc., etc." It really was fun to feel like being in school again. I used to feel like writing such stuff myself in my letters when I was in college but don't anymore, at least, not to you. Sometimes I do to some extent to the boys, but not as I used to. I must be growing up. Oh, sad day, when we have to grow up, although that time brings us what means most of all in life. I guess I shall always retain my sense of humor though. He happened to stand right beside me up in the balcony for quite a while, and I had a chance to get a good look at him, one of the giants of this great industry. He is not a selfmade man like Mr. Young, but comes from an illustrious family, his father having been president of Pratt & Whitney, a world famous tool company of Hartford. However, he made his way to the top in the GE Company and is one of the greatest executives they have, which means something in a concern with men like Swope and Owen Young. One thing I notice about these men is what perfect, polished gentlemen they are -- the exact opposite of what Mr. Wilkinson is supposed to be. Seeing such men makes me want to rise to the very top too and sometime be what they are.

[[underlined]] To Willie, February 4, 1925: [[/underlined]] It must be a great satisfaction to understand just what goes on inside a molecule. It is knowledge like that that I thirst for -- to understand a thing to the motion of its electrons. That is why I am always trying to explain things like that to myself -- Rog Casler and I used to
