The conference is for the purpose of settling all the questions regarding the control to be used on the eight gas-electric cars they are to build for the United Railways of Cuba, the electrical equipment to be furnished them by the General Electric Company. I am very much thrilled over making my first trip. I shall probably come back tomorrow night. I am going down on the Pennsylvania as that is the most direct way to go, leaving here at 6:20 p.m. and arriving there at 7:55 a.m. Willie is certainly mighty nice about my going, not making any fuss although I know she hates to have me go. ...... I'm glad to hear you're giving up the Alliance presidency as it has tied you down too much. If you shoud go to Buena Vista, it would be wonderful. I arrived in Philadelphia Monday and went direct to the Brill plant, where our conference was to be held. However, before proceeding with the conference, they wanted us to go on the initial trip of the Lehigh Valley car so Sahlmann, Gillilan and I (they are from Schenectady) went along representing the GE Company. The car is a gas-electric with two big 275 hp engines in it. However, we had a great deal of trouble due to various causes and I certainly got some fine experience. We ran about 100 miles that day over both the mainline of the Pennsylvania and also a branch line that runs back into the hills south of Philadelphia. I stayed
