[[underline]]To Mother, March 13, 1927[[/underline]]: I feel quite like a person of importance
now; I am to take the 6:20 this evening for Philadelphia
for a conference at the Brill plant there tomorrow
morning. The conference is for the purpose of settling all
the questions regarding the control to be used on the eight
gas-electric cars they are to build for the United Railways
of Cuba, the electrical equipment to be furnished them by the
General Electric Company. I am very much thrilled over making

way to go, leaving here at 6:20 p.m. and arriving there at
7:55 a.m. Willie is certainly mighty nice about my going,

if he hasn't.

wanted us to go on the initial trip of the Lehigh Valley car
so Sahlmann, Gillilan and I (they are from Schenectady) went
along representing the GE Company. The car is a gas-electric
with two big 275 hp engines in it. However, we had a great
deal of trouble due to various causes and I certainly got
some fine experience. We ran about 100 miles that day over
both the mainline of the Pennsylvania and also a branch line
that runs back into the hills south of Philadelphia. I stayed
